Mojave Snowfall

The California storms
spilled the anomaly
of this desert snow,
a hard packed cap
atop the Sierras,
fragile crystal dust
on the cacti,
inert and oxymoronic
as the wind dances
past the spines
Kit fox is deeper
in her den confused
by the gelid light,
the predator nose
numbed, vulnerable
while the grebes delight
in the whispery crystals
creating snow angels
inadvertently
with their joyful play
