A Leafy Poem
by Deborah Russell
small birds - circling
in the morning hush
i write love letters
in white dust
when you wake
leaves drop whispers
on the floor
poetry moves the earth
your small square of paper
floating down
the sun moves by the window
forms a circle of brightness...
twirling a leafy poem
between my fingers
words become a blur
i watch our breath
make steamy circles
on the glaze of cups -
white, misty circles
that evaporate after
each sip
